Anne Rogers does an AMA on Reddit and is asked about what pitching the Royals can trade for a bat.
What remains to be seen is what the trade market looks like for those starters in regard to who the Royals want to get in return, and who exactly they’re willing to give up. They get a lot of questions about Cole Ragans, whom the Royals are highly unlikely to trade unless they are blown away by the offer. They haven’t been. Teams ask a lot about Noah Cameron, who is a young and controllable starter with
plenty of upside.
But what do the Royals get in return for that? They better be getting years of control with the player(s) they ask for as well. And of course teams ask about Kris Bubic, who is a free agent after 2026. Does he have enough value, though — with one year of control and the injuries he’s dealt with — to net the Royals the bat they’re looking for? Those are the conversations the club is having internally and with other teams. The conversations are happening, but nothing is moving at the moment.
Jaylon Thompson writes about how the left side of the Royals’ infield became elite defensively.
In the process, Kansas City’s infielders blossomed defensively. And Witt saw a steady decline in his total errors — he had just 10 this season.
“(It’s just) working on defensive stuff, just from the first step, making plays and making the routine plays routine,” Witt said. “And it’s also just trying to stay locked in. … The biggest change is just being able to stay locked in every pitch. Just pitch by pitch and every game.”
David Lesky reacts to the Alex Lange signing.
But I would imagine the Royals hope Lange is in the big leagues and joins Erceg in the group that isn’t going anywhere even though he can. It’s just nice that they have the possibility. Lange missed most of this past season with a lat injury that required surgery, so he’s certainly not a sure thing, but has a career strikeout rate of 27.2 percent and also has a ground ball rate of. 50.1 percent, which is a definite nice to have on a team with such strong infield defense, at least on the left side. But the strikeouts are what excite me. He only pitched in 21 games in 2024 as well, but he struck out 27.4 percent of hitters in 2023 and 30.3 percent of hitters in 2022. The only Royals reliever to strike out more than 25.6 percent of hitters was Hunter Harvey.
