Heading into the summer transfer window, the consensus was that 22-year-old Liverpool attacking midfielder Harvey Elliott was likely to depart the club in search of playing time after his opportunities became limited over manager Arne Slot’s first season in charge at the club.
Early chatter focused on a potential move to Bayer Leverkusen after Liverpool signed Florian Wirtz from them, but in the end nothing solid materialized and there have been few solid links in the weeks and months since. That,
though, seems as though it may have changed.
For the first time in a while, we’ve got Elliott chatter. And once again it’s out of Germany. This time around, though, the links are to RB Leipzig, who are looking for a potential replacement for Xavi Simons, who is widely expected to join Chelsea before the window closes.
While the arrival of Wirtz put a barrier in front of Elliott at his preferred position, the Reds currently lack attacking depth generally and some had wondered if boyhood Liverpool fan Elliott might in the end stay because of that and earn minutes in a more advanced role.
If the chatter out of Germany is true, then it appears there will likely be no chance for a redemption ark for Elliott under Slot—while for Liverpool, one more sale will in some ways only highlight the need to get at least one more major attacking signing across the line this month.
