Not every promising player who passes through Bayern Munich’s academy gets the chance to make an impact at the Allianz Arena. Sometimes, a young player needs to leave Bavaria before his career truly begins to take off.
That appears to be the case for Robert Deziel Jr., who formally left Bayern Munich last summer.
The United States-born center-back joined Bayern Munich in the fall of 2020 as a highly regarded prospect and worked his way through the club’s U-17 and U-19 teams before getting an opportunity
with the reserves. Despite showing enough promise to earn opportunities, Deziel Jr. was never able to establish himself as a legitimate first-team option in Munich.
A two-year loan spell at Altglienicke followed, and the defender eventually left Bayern permanently when he joined Legia Warsaw on a free transfer in July 2026.
So far, the move looks like an excellent decision.
The 21-year-old has become a regular starter for Legia and has helped the club remain unbeaten in league play. He has started all but one of Legia’s matches this season, quickly establishing himself as an important piece for manager Marek Papszun.
His performances have also caught the attention of Transfermarkt, per Tz.
Deziel Jr.’s market value has reportedly jumped from approximately €250,000 to €1 million—a 300% increase. That kind of increase is notable for a young defender who was available on a free transfer only a few months ago.
There is also an interesting Bayern Munich connection to his emergence. Deziel Jr. reportedly impressed during his final appearances for Bayern Munich II, performances that helped generate interest in Poland before his departure.
For Bayern Munich, there is obviously no reason to lose sleep over a player currently valued at €1 million. The club has a much different standard for first-team players. Still, Deziel Jr.’s rapid development is a reminder of something Bayern Munich’s academy produces regularly: talented players who sometimes need to take a different path before figuring everything out.
And right now, that path is leading through Warsaw.
