On her latest Making Monsters podcast, Taylor Doll previewed this Sunday’s Chicago Bears vs New Orleans Saints game with a bit of help from two people who cover their respective teams.
First, she spoke with Ben Devine, who has had a social media presence covering the Bears since 2009. They go over the positives and negatives that came out of last week’s game in Washington. They discuss how the Bears can avoid this “trap game.” How Caleb Williams can silence some of the criticism, and how Ben Johnson
can keep advancing his big picture plan for the Bears.
Taylor is also joined by Ross Jackson, who is on the Saints beat for Louisiana Sports Dot Net and hosts the Locked on Saints podcast. Jackson breaks down how the Saints have played to start 2025, and also reviews the start of Dennis Allen’s time coordinating the defense in Chicago, which they also discussed on her show in the preseason.
Head coach Ben Johnson receives a lot of praise for his ability to adapt his offense to suit their needs from week to week, but Allen has the same versatility as a play caller.
“Just knowing what it is that a guy like Dennis Allen can do in terms of changing his approach,” Jackson told Taylor on the podcast. “I mean, going from 50% of the defense being played with a single high safety to 70% last week up against the Washington Commanders and basically saying, ‘I dare you to run or go ahead and throw if you want to,’ but committing to stopping the run and then leaping from being the like 25th team in blitz percentage over the first four weeks to the number four team in blitz percentage last week. I expect that you’re going to see a lot of exactly those things going up against a young quarterback like Spencer Ratler.”
“I think that’s a really, really good team over there,” Jackson said about the Bears. “It’s headed in the right direction. Kind of reminiscent of you know, a division mate in the Detroit Lions who went on that kind of slow upward trajectory. I think that’s kind of the way that the Bears are perceived, at least from here in New Orleans.”
