Dealing with injuries is a challenge for any manager, but with Roma, they always seem to come in spades. While the Giallorossi have been fortunate to avoid any catastrophic injuries, their relatively clean bill of health has been marred by a series of muscle sprains, twisted ankles, and tweaked hamstrings as we work through the doldrums of late winter. With another critical six-pointer coming up this weekend, let’s take a look at the latest injury updates as Roma prepares to host 5th-place Juventus
on Sunday.
Paulo Dybala Undergoing Last Minute Tests; Soulé Likely to Play
With approximately 1,300 minutes in all competitions this season, Dybala has been reasonably healthy, averaging just shy of 60 minutes per appearance, a role that seems perfectly suited for the 32-year-old attacker. However, Dybala has been waylaid by a left knee injury over the past several weeks, forcing La Joya to miss Roma’s last four matches.
While Dybala hasn’t been cleared to return to the pitch, the go/no-go decision for the Juve match is fast approaching, as Sky Sport reports that a final determination will be made after Friday’s training session.
As for his compatriot, Matías Soulé, who missed last week’s match due to a groin injury, is expected to be available on Sunday, even if he isn’t able to start the match.
Hermoso Delayed, El Shaarawy Making Progress
After missing nearly three weeks with a foot injury, Mario Hermoso was poised to start against Cremonese last weekend, only to be pulled from the starting lineup at the last minute. Although his foot may have healed, the 30-year-old Madrid native is now dealing with a lower-body injury that could keep him out of Sunday’s fixture against the Old Lady.
El Shaarawy, who has been waylaid by an Achilles strain, has returned to partial group training and could be available off the bench on Sunday.
