Cory Sandhagen put up a good fight at UFC 320 last weekend in Las Vegas, but was ultimately defeated by reigning bantamweight champion Merab Dvalishvili. The loss did little to hurt “Sandman’s” stock at 135 pounds, but he’s probably going to be keeping the gate for as long as “The Machine” is champion.
“Congrats to the champ — you’re a hell of a fighter and a great champion of the division,” Sandhagen wrote on Instagram. “I’m proud to have fought you. I’ll get you next time!! To all my fans, nothing
changes for me. It’s all hard work till the day I hang it up. We’ll still get to gold — even though the water is murky right now. I’ll always have an unbreakable spirit until the day I die. I love this sh*t.”
Sandhagen, 33, dropped to 18-6 with his loss to Dvalishvili but will likely retain his spot in the division Top 5 when the official UFC rankings are updated later this week. In addition, “Sandman” is getting post-fight support from the legendary Chuck Norris, one of the biggest names in the history of martial arts.
“The heart of a warrior,” Norris replied on Instagram. “Regardless of the outcome, you went out there and showcased greatness. Always in your corner, Cory.”
