The Brandon Aiyuk social media posts continue, and they are less cryptic this time around. The soon-to-be-former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver went to Instagram on Sunday, ending it with: “Go, Commanders.”
There’s less to overanalyze with this one. This is one week after he posted on Instagram in Washington, D.C., and two weeks after his post wearing a Washington Commanders hat. Now, rather than a cryptic
location, we have a team being name-dropped.
For all we know, Aiyuk could just be trolling NFL fans since it’s been pretty clear he wants to go to the Washington Commanders and reunite with his college QB Jayden Daniels. There have been no reports to link any sort of deal between the 49ers and the Commanders. The only news we have is that Washington would be interested in Aiyuk when he becomes a free agent, whenever that should happen. Washington has no desire to send draft picks to get Aiyuk.
And Washington wasn’t the only team that didn’t want to do such a transaction; the rest of the league shares that sentiment, or he’d be on another roster by now. The 49ers can take their time holding onto Aiyuk since he’s on the Reserve/Left Squad list.
This makes sense since Aiyuk hasn’t played football in almost two years. Washington could net a better deal, and if the 49ers are going to release him and he wants to go to the Commanders anyway, why send draft picks when you can get him in another month?
So we’ve gone from Aiyuk posting in a Commanders hat to Aiyuk posting in Washington, D.C. to Aiyuk cheering on the Commanders.
Are you not entertained?
