When it comes to evaluating Bayern Munich’s transfer business, Kevin Hatchard sees something particularly encouraging: versatility.
Hatchard, a veteran football journalist and broadcaster who has covered the Bundesliga extensively for years, believes Bayern Munich have added players who can provide Vincent Kompany with more than just competition for places. Nathaniel Brown and Ismaël Saibari bring flexibility that could prove extremely valuable across a long season.
“Last season, Nathaniel Brown’s
come in for Raphaël Guerreiro effectively. Brown’s dynamic. He’s somebody that can play multiple positions. We’ve seen that already. He’s been very comfortable in the number 10 position, in the first couple of games, somewhere where he played as a youth player, so he does have some experience of playing there,” Hatchard told Casino Guru. “Then you look at Ismaël Saibari, and he’s effectively the replacement for Nicolas Jackson, who they loaned last season, but decided not to keep on a permanent basis. Saibari can cover multiple positions as well. He got two assists on his big debut against Stuttgart, came on as a sub, really sharp, could play in behind as a striker.
“We saw that for Morocco at the World Cup against Brazil with that really good goal that he scored. But he could play in the 10, he could drop a bit deeper, he could play in the wide area. He’s used to playing for a dominant team, because if you look at what he’s done at PSV in recent seasons, they’ve been winning the Eredivisie title under Peter Bosz, and he plays attacking, dominant football. So, I don’t think it’s a transition that Saibari will find particularly difficult.”
Saibari did not arrive from a team that is accustomed to sitting deep and playing primarily on the counter. At PSV, he has already experienced the expectations that come with dominating possession, controlling matches and breaking down opponents who defend deep. That should make his transition into Kompany’s Bayern Munich considerably smoother.
And then there is Brown, whose ability to contribute across multiple positions gives Bayern Munich another useful tactical option.
The early returns are certainly encouraging. Saibari immediately announced himself with two assists against Stuttgart, while Brown’s positional versatility has already caught the eye.
For Bayern Munich, these signings are not simply about adding bodies to the squad. They are about adding options. With Bundesliga, Champions League, and the DFB-Pokal demanding constant rotation, having players capable of filling multiple roles could become one of Bayern Munich’s biggest strengths this season.
Hatchard’s assessment suggests Max Eberl and Bayern Munich may have targeted something very specific in the transfer market — versatility without sacrificing quality.
