One of the biggest and most underrated position battles at Tennessee Titans training camp has happened at swing tackle. It was a position of concern before practice began and remains a worry-area heading into 53-man roster cuts this weekend. It seems that sophomore undrafted free agent Brandon Crenshaw-Dickson is winning the job.
The Titans signed veteran tackle Austin Deculus in free agency. Fans immediately pointed out that he was terrible for the Los Angeles Chargers last season. Unsurprisingly,
Deculus has been really bad in camp and throughout the preseason, and may not make Mike Borgonzi’s 53-man roster.
Cutting Deculus would leave Crenshaw-Dickson as the lone swing tackle behind starters Dan Moore Jr. and JC Latham. Crenshaw-Dickson has performed admirably throughout the preseason, heading into this weekend’s finale. Meanwhile, Deculus has been demoted after failing to meet expectations.
Crenshaw-Dickson did not play a single meaningful snap for the Titans as a rookie. Trusting the former Florida Gators standout to be the team’s No. 3 tackle requires a massive leap of faith. The Titans may not have a better alternative.
Oli Udoh was a stellar swing tackle for the Titans last season. He signed with the Arizona Cardinals in free agency and the Titans have seemingly gotten worse at that crucial position. It’s imperative that both Moore and Latham stay healthy this season. Any other outcome could totally sink the offense, if we’re being honest.
Borgonzi could attempt to search through 53-man roster cuts for an upgrade. You don’t find quality tackles on the waiver wire, but the Titans’ situation is so dire that an upgrade may be out there. There may also be opportunities for trades (late-round pick swap) this weekend as roster cuts begin transpiring. Borgonzi should be attentive to all opportunities.
Crenshaw-Dickson might be the Titans’ swing tackle in 2026.
