Former England goalkeeper David James is expecting a big World Cup for Bayern Munich striker and England national team star Harry Kane.
“Awards like often come down to goals, but there’s a caveat to my answer. Harry Kane is capable of winning the Golden Boot. However, Golden Boot winners rarely go on to win the World Cup. “It’s a bit of a paradox. You want the best player to be part of the best team, but statistically, that doesn’t always happen,” James told BetVictor. “That said, Harry Kane would
be my pick. He’s looked rejuvenated over the last year, especially this season. If Thomas Tuchel can get the best out of him, he’ll score goals, but he’ll also contribute so much in other areas of the game. I’m not saying he’s nailed on, because there are tremendous players around the world, but he’s certainly someone who could win a major individual accolade.”
James also thinks England can win the World Cup.
“I think England can win it, so they will go all the way. When you look at the squad, and having listened to Thomas Tuchel’s squad announcement interview, I liked the level of detail he went into about players understanding their roles. I think there’s a nice balance, not just in terms of personnel but also in the way Thomas has explained why he’s selected the squad the way he has,” said James. “Everything feels right. It feels good. We have so much talent in that squad that I don’t think it’s about looking for one individual. That’s why I feel confident. We have balance, and everyone will quite literally do what they need to do for England to win, rather than relying on one player to carry the team through the tournament.”
