Manchester United are planning midfield changes this summer following the impending exit of Casemiro at the end of his contract in June.
The Red Devils, who have been linked for a long time with several Premier League-based options, have had their sights on Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes for a while, and they already seem to have an agreement in principle for the acquisition of the Brazil international.
According to Reuters, Manchester United are in advanced talks to sign the Magpies’ captain
in a deal reported to be worth £69 million.
Fernando Kallas’ report states that initial contacts between the Premier League rivals went smoothly, and only a late-minute interest from Real Madrid could swing the deal toward Spain instead of Manchester. That said, Bruno’s days in Tyneside seem to be numbered.
Bruno joined Newcastle from Lyon in January 2022 for a fee reported to be up to £40 million and is under contract at St James’ Park until 2028.
Reuters claims that Casemiro has personally recommended Guimaraes as his successor in Manchester, while Real Madrid’s interest is based on the club’s long-term admiration of Bruno and backed up by Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti.
Newcastle, obviously, are not actively seeking a Bruno sale, but they didn’t chase a suitor for Alexander Isak either, and you know how that ended.
While no formal offers had leaked until now, this latest bit of news coming from Reuters sounds too ominous not to consider Bruno’s future in Newcastle done and over. Manchester or Madrid, pick your poison and enjoy whatever is left of Bruno in Tyneside. Been a pleasure, captain.
