Today starts this year’s signing period for international free agents, and the Texas Rangers have inked a number of prospects to deals.
The headliner for the class is 17 year old Dominican outfielder Elian Rosario. Listed at 6’2”, 195 lbs., Rosario is #9 on the Baseball America top 100 international prospect list. His power is considered his carrying tool, and he projects as a corner outfielder as a professional. He received a $2.5 million signing bonus, which is over a third of the Rangers’ $6.679
million bonus pool for this signing period.
The Rangers have also signed outfielder Jesus Chavez, catcher Santiago Ramirez, righthanded pitcher Frandel Pineda, catcher Frainker Benitez, outfielder Victor Rodriguez, outfielder Carlos Done, and outfielder Ariel Abreu.
Chavez received the largest bonus of that group, at $600,000. He is ranked #82 on the BA top 100 international prospect list. The other Ranger signee who is on the BA list is Abreu, who is at #100.
