It appears as though the Tennessee Volunteers will have an important piece of their defense back as they take to the road for their first SEC away game of the season on Saturday against Mississippi State.
According to On3 Sports’ Chris Low and Pete Nakos, DL Jaxson Moi will be back with the Vols this weekend barring any setback.
The Vols’ defense took a hit with the loss of Moi in the Syracuse game to an upper body injury. Heupel, as usual, has been relatively coy about his injury status, so greater clarity came from the SEC availability report. He was questionable on Wednesday of the Georgia game but downgraded to doubtful the day before the game.
That seems to indicate he wasn’t terribly far off, but not quite ready. His absence was certainly felt against Georgia, as the Bulldogs rolled up almost 200 yards on the ground in their 44-41 overtime win.
But now, against another set of Bulldogs, the Vols will be a little bit more complete as they look to stop a Mississippi State team that comes in at 4-0 and with a very capable offense under head coach Jeff Lebby.
Tennessee and Mississippi State get underway on Saturday at 4:15 pm ET in Starkville.
