When Bill Goldberg returned to WWE about 10 years ago, many wrestling fans were soon introduced to his shirtless son, Gage. Five years later, Gage even got involved in one of his dad’s storylines with the All Mighty Bobby Lashley.
When Gage isn’t busy telling Bret Hart to stop trashing his dad, the younger Goldberg now plays college football in Colorado for “Coach Prime” Deion Sanders. During a quick interview on Colorado Football Coaches Show featuring Coach Prime, Gage was asked if getting into
pro wrestling like his father is an option for him. Gage said he would love to do it once he’s done with football:
“Yes sir, it’s definitely there.
…Actually, when I was younger, [my dad] didn’t want me to do it whatsoever. And then once he started to go back [to WWE], once I started to get involved a little bit, then it started to change.
It’s up to me. So, I mean, I would love to do it, honestly. I would love to have that opportunity to do it, and I feel like it would be a great thing to do after football.”
Gage went on to talk about the pressure he feels living up to his father’s success, and that his goal is to be better than his old man.
“I’ve been dealing with it my entire life. When I was in high school, I had the target on my back, whether it was baseball or football. And I really started to deal with it, I would say junior year, that’s when I started to know that I really have an expectation for myself, and what everyone looking in on me has for me.
What I want to do is, I want to be better than my dad. And I just have to do that. I have to be my own person. I can’t rely on him for everything, and I have to create my own opportunities.”
Seeing the major pro wrestling opportunities that are now coming to AJ Styles’ and Sting’s sons, who are both very inexperienced, it makes sense why Gage looks at this industry as a viable career path for him. And if Gage’s main goal is to be better than his dad, then all he really has to do is learn how to sell basic wrestling moves and not smash his arm through a car window.
Do you think Gage Goldberg has a future in pro wrestling? If so, will Bret Hart shit on him as one of the worst young wrestlers he’s ever seen? Let me know what you think about another very famous wrestler’s son possibly breaking into the business, Cagesiders.
