Six years after he was selected 15th overall in the NBA Draft, former Tar Heel Cole Anthony is out of the league.
Anthony signed with Australian club Melbourne United on Wednesday, marking the latest chapter in a career that arguably hasn’t lived up to the hype. While six seasons in the NBA is nothing to scoff at (and it’s not out of the question that he could find his way back), we’re talking about a guy who was a consensus top-five player and the #1 point guard in his recruiting class. Even before
entering the pro ranks, his one year of college basketball left a lot to be desired; he was a third team all-ACC selection after being tabbed as a first-teamer in the preseason.
That brings us to our question of the day: which highly-touted recruit had the most disappointing UNC career?
I’ll open this up to any sport. There’s certainly plenty of contenders in football, and one that jumps out immediately is Keeshawn Silver. A five-star recruit and consensus top 10 defensive end in the class of 2021, Silver was a major early recruiting win for Mack 2.0 and was expected to become a multi-year starter. Instead, he posted a total of four tackles in six games across two seasons before transferring to Kentucky.
