An influential piece in Maryland women’s lacrosse’s run to the NCAA Tournament semifinals received another accolade on Tuesday. Goalkeeper JJ Suriano was named IWLCA’s Goalie of the Year, awarded to the nation’s top netminder.
The Baltimore native added a third postseason honor to her list this year, following her recognition as the Big Ten Goaltender of the Year and an All-Big Ten first-teamer. She was also part
of the 2026 Tewaaraton Award watchlist and later a top-25 finalist for the award.
Suriano completed her breakout junior campaign with a nation-leading 227 saves. She finished atop the Big Ten in save percentage (.510) and saves per game (10.3).
She became the seventh Terp in program history to be named Goalie of the Year. The last Maryland player to earn the honor was Emily Sterling in 2023.
