Things might be looking bleak for Manuel Neuer to play for Bayern Munich vs. VfB Stuttgart in the DFB-Pokal on Saturday.
Per Bild (via @iMiaSanMia), Neuer did not train with the team on Tuesday or Wednesday due to a lingering calf issue:
Manuel Neuer did not train with the team yesterday and will not take part in today’s session either. Neuer will have his calf checked tomorrow to see if it has recovered. The results will determine whether the captain will resume training tomorrow ahead of Saturday’s
DFB Pokal final. Neuer’s World Cup participation will also depend on the tests. [@BILD]
Per Tz’s Philipp Kessler and Hanna Raif (via @iMiaSanMia), if Neuer cannot practice on Thursday, Bayern Munich will start Jonas Urbig:
Should Manuel Neuer be unable to resume training tomorrow, Jonas Urbig would start against Stuttgart on Saturday. The club does not want to make it a last-minute call.
This is a prudent approach for Bayern Munich as the club wants to ensure that Urbig has ample time to prepare if needed.
