Ahead of their series in Cincinnati, the Mets made a number of roster moves. Kodai Senga, who the Mets approached about a stint in the minor leagues to work on his recent issues, accepted an assignment to Triple-A Syracuse. Taking his place on the roster is Wander Suero, the former National/Angel/Dodger/Brave who was claimed off of waivers yesterday. Additionally, catcher Francisco Alvarez was reinstated to the major league roster after a stint on the injured list and backup catcher Hayden Senger
was optioned to Syracuse.
Since returning from injury on July 11th, Senga has had a rough go of things, seeing his ERA more than double in that time and only recording an out in the fifth inning or later in three of his nine starts. With just over three weeks left in the season, the Mets are hopeful that some time in the minors will help straighten out whatever is ailing Senga to position him to help the team in the playoffs.
Alvarez returns to the team after landing on the Injured List on August 19th with a thumb injury caused by a headfirst slide into second base. While on rehab assignment, Alvarez broke his pinky after being hit by a pitch on August 27th. The Mets obviously feel that he is healthy enough to take the field, but how much these hand injuries will affect either side of his game remains to be seen.
