When people discuss Germany’s attacking options heading into the World Cup, the conversation often centers around stars like Jamal Musiala, Florian Wirtz, and other creative talents. But one player who could end up being just as important is Kai Havertz.
The big question is whether Havertz can carry the responsibility of leading Germany’s attack when the stakes are the highest.
On one hand, Havertz has proven throughout his career that he can deliver in major moments. He scored the winning goal in the 2021
Champions League final and has experience playing under immense pressure for both club and country. At Arsenal, he has evolved into a more complete forward, combining intelligent movement, aerial ability, pressing, and link-up play. He may not be a traditional number nine, but he consistently creates space for teammates and finds ways to impact matches.
On the other hand, asking him to put Germany’s entire attack on his shoulders may be too much. The strength of this German team lies in its collective talent. Musiala can beat defenders one-on-one. Wirtz can unlock defenses with a single pass. Teams across Europe have shown that modern international football is often won by attacking units rather than one superstar carrying the load.
For Germany to make a deep World Cup run, Havertz probably does not need to score six or seven goals. What Germany needs is for him to be the focal point that allows the rest of the attack to flourish. If he can occupy defenders, finish chances consistently, and connect with the creative players around him, he could be one of the tournament’s most valuable forwards.
So what do you think, can Havertz be the man for Germany? Tell us in the comments below!
