Despite its early promise, Wisdom Mike’s 2025/26 campaign fizzled out and then ended abjectly when he injured a hip tendon in mid-March. Sky Sport journalist Kerry Hau predicted that the Bayern Munich youngster’s recovery time would last three to four months.
Four-and-a-half months later, the 17-year-old is finally ready to begin training again and partake in the Bavarians’ preseason.
However, in order to regain full fitness, Bayern have chosen a different approach. Again it is Hau who reports the
latest from Sky Germany as the former Borussia Mönchengladbach academy player is set to miss the trip to Asia:
Wisdom Mike fully participated in the short training camp at Tegernsee. To continue working specifically on his fitness and to gain experience with Dante’s U23 team soon, Mike will not be joining FC Bayern’s trip to Asia, in consultation with Vincent Kompany.
In Munich, Mike can train better and more extensively, and potentially even gain competitive match experience with the reserve team in the Regionalliga Bayern (fourth tier). There are still many interested clubs both domestically and internationally who would like to loan Mike. If a deal goes through, he could start immediately without the added burden of travel.
However, all parties involved want to wait and see how things develop over the next few weeks. For the teenager, the main focus now is on getting back to 100 percent after his roughly four-month injury layoff.
It is no coincidence that Mike renewed alongside Lennart Karl last season and appeared five times for Bayern’s senior team in the 2025/26 season. Bayern have a lot of faith in the youngster’s potential. In order to turn that potential into the kind of breakthrough Karl did last season, Mike will need to regain full fitness and then decide whether a move away is the best next step in his career.
