Newcastle United continues to be linked with younger, versatile defenders as Ross Wilson and Matthias Jaissle assess options for future transfer windows.
Now, another Brazil international is being connected to the club. According to ASRomaLive and SportWitness, Newcastle is among the Premier League clubs interested in Roma wing-back Wesley, alongside Manchester United and Arsenal. The 23-year-old has seen his valuation rise significantly since moving to Italy, and the Magpies are also tracking his teammate,
Vanderson.
“ASRomaLive cover the wing-back’s rise in the last 12 months or so, noting that he has captured everyone’s attention in Rome. The outlet clarify that Chelsea tried to sign Wesley in 2025 but his desire to play for Roma meant he stayed,” SportWitness reported. “Now, Manchester United are keen on the player, with the Red Devils needing fullbacks. Newcastle United are keen, and now Arsenal are also muscling in.”
Wesley joined Roma from Flamengo for €25 million plus €5 million in bonuses and has since established himself under Gian Piero Gasperini. The Brazilian was initially deployed on the right flank but has also been used at left wing-back.
ASRomaLive reported that Wesley is now worth at least twice what Roma paid, while subsequent reporting placed his valuation at around €60 million (£52 million). Chelsea previously attempted to sign Wesley before his move to Rome, while Manchester City has also been linked with the defender in the past.
Vanderson, meanwhile, is valued at approximately €35-40 million and appears to be the Newcastle connection most clearly established by the original report. For now, however, there is no suggestion Newcastle has made an offer or entered negotiations for either player.
Would you prefer Newcastle to pursue Wesley at around €60 million, or would Vanderson represent better value at a lower price? Share your thoughts in the comments.
