FIBA Women’s World Cup 2026: Alicia Florez makes Spain’s roster

What is the story about?

On Monday, FIBA announced Spain’s final roster for the 2026 FIBA Women’s World Cup. Washington Mystics guard Alicia Florez was announced as one of the players.

As a 22-year-old, Florez will probably not play major minutes for Spain, who will look to make their first championship game since 2014 and their first World Cup Gold Medal all around.

Florez is also not the only player with Mystics ties for Spain. Portland Fire center Megan DiLeo (listed as Gustafson, her maiden name) is Spain’s starting center and played

for the Mystics in 2021. DiLeo averaged 18 points and 9.3 rebounds per game in the 2024 Olympics.

In addition to Florez, Mystics guard Sonia Citron and forward Kiki Iriafen have also made it to a World Cup roster. Citron and Iriafen will play for the United States.

The Spanish will begin Group A play on Friday, Sept. 4 against Germany, the hosts at approximately 11:45 a.m. ET. They will then play on Saturday at approximately 5:30 a.m. ET against Mali and Japan on Monday at approximately 11:50 a.m. ET.
