After Sam Kerr scored a hat trick in her first game against her former team Sky Blue FC, she wasn’t in a particularly celebratory mood. “If I’m honest, I didn’t enjoy it,” Kerr commented after the match. “I
wish things were better here, and that I could stay. It just sucks that that’s the way it had to be.”
Eight years later, The Athletic first reported with ESPN confirming, that the striker is set to return to that very same team where she still holds the club’s all-time scoring record. Kerr will
be joining Gotham FC as a free agent following the conclusion of her contract with English side Chelsea FC this summer.
Since her initial stint with the side, Gotham FC has undergone massive changes that have led to two NWSL championships and a continental trophy in the last three seasons.
This news comes hours after the club announced that they were trading left back Lilly Reale to Boston Legacy FC in exchange for $350,000 in allocation money and $50,000 in intra-league transfer funds.
