There was quite a bit of shifting in the polls after an eventful Week 4 of College Football. However, the Tennessee Volunteers stood pat and watched teams leap over them and fall well down below them.
The Vols held firm at 15 in both polls after defeating UAB 56-24 on Saturday afternoon in Knoxville. It was impressive enough, as the Vols led 42-7 at the break and coasted home in the second half.
A number of notable teams moved above and below them, however. In the AP Poll, Indiana leapt up eight places to #11 after absolutely annihilating #9 Illinois 63-10. Texas Tech also jumped up five spots after blowing out Utah on the road in a battle of what had been top 20 teams.
A notable drop below Tennessee was Alabama, who was idle. The Crimson Tide went from 14 to 17 despite not playing, thanks to the Hoosiers and Red Raiders vaulting up the rankings. Utah and Auburn both dropped out of the poll.
The SEC is well represented this week, as Missouri and Vanderbilt are both inside the top 20 in both polls. Among the nation’s top 20 teams, 9 of them are from the SEC. Not too shabby.
Mississippi State checked in just outside of the rankings as the second team also receiving votes. That means Tennessee’s matchup on Saturday in Starkville with the Bulldogs won’t be a ranked matchup. Still, it should have plenty of interest and intrigue, as the Bulldogs are 4-0 and playing good football.
