What is the story about?

Questions surrounding Bayern Munich’s left side have been a recurring theme throughout the summer. From speculation over Alphonso Davies’ long-term future to discussions about additional reinforcements on the wing, there has been no shortage of uncertainty. However, Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl has now made the club’s position crystal clear — Davies is staying, and Bayern believes it has more than enough quality and versatility to cover the left flank.

“I can rule out a move away

for Alphonso Davies. Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanišić have filled in at left-back. With Luis Díaz, Arijon Ibrahimović, Nene (Brown) and Davies, we’re well equipped on the left wing. We originally wanted to do something on the left side of attack but we’ve not done that. We’ve become more flexible with Ismael Saibari and Brown,” Eberl said (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).

Eberl’s comments not only shut down any lingering transfer rumors surrounding Davies, but they also provide insight into Bayern Munich’s evolving squad planning. Rather than forcing another signing, the club appears comfortable relying on the versatility already within the squad.

Brown gives Vincent Kompany another natural option at left-back while also allowing Davies to push higher up the pitch if needed. Ismael Saibari’s ability to operate across multiple attacking positions adds further flexibility, reducing the need for a specialist left winger. Combined with the arrival of Díaz and the continued development of Arijon Ibrahimović, Bayern Munich has assembled several different profiles capable of filling roles on the left side.

The biggest takeaway, however, is Eberl’s unequivocal statement regarding Davies. Despite months of speculation and contract discussions, Bayern Munich is planning for the Canadian international to remain a central part of the project. Whether at left-back or in a more advanced role, Davies looks set to continue playing a significant role as Kompany builds a squad capable of competing for every major trophy this season.
