The Denver Broncos will likely witness the departure of defensive lineman John Franklin-Myers in free agency. Over the past two seasons, Franklin-Myers has been a key contributor on defense. However, he could command nearly $20 million a year on the market. A well-deserved pay raise for certain, but likely far too much for the Broncos to allocate at the position group.
The team is hoping Sai’vion Jones can take a leap forward in year two to offset that loss. They also have Eyioma Uwazurike in the
fold to play more snaps. Though wouldn’t be a surprise to see Denver potentially look to sign a veteran to compete for a spot next season.
One name to watch for is longtime New Orleans Saints defensive end Cameron Jordan. Could Jordan reunite with Head Coach Sean Payton in the Mile High City? It’s certainly a possibility. Let’s talk about it.
Player Profile
Defensive Lineman | Cameron Jordan | New Orleans Saints
Height: 6’4”
Weight: 287 pounds
Age: 36 years old
Experience: 15 NFL seasons
2025 stats: 17 games played with 17 starts. 47 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, 10.5 sacks, 15 quarterback hits. 54-percent of defensive snaps played with 590.
Should the Broncos sign defensive lineman Cameron Jordan?
A fifteen-year ironman of the NFL, Jordan’s been an extremely productive and durable player over the course of his career. He has only missed two games in that timeframe. A three-time All-Pro and eight-time Pro-Bowler, Jordan has been one of the most dominant defensive linemen of his generation.
He boasts 763 tackles, 175 tackles for loss, 248 quarterback hits, and 132 sacks on his resume. Despite being 36 years of age, the savvy veteran had a huge performance in 2025 with 47 tackles and 10.5 sacks. It’s incredibly rare to see players with such production and longevity—especially in the trenches. But both Jordan and Calais Campbell have defied the odds and cemented themselves as future Hall of Fame players.
As mentioned earlier, Jones and Uwazurike are first in line to get a chance to replace Franklin-Myers. I’m fine with that as a baseline plan. However, I don’t think the Broncos have much to lose by making a run at Jordan in free agency. A one-year deal with financial incentives to perform well again makes a lot of sense.
He can still play at a high level against the pass and run. In fact, he played more defensive snaps than Franklin-Myers did with the Broncos last year and arguably put up better numbers. On top of that, he would be a fantastic leader to have in the locker room. A lot of players could learn from him. You want those types of guys on your team.
Why the Broncos will not sign Cameron Jordan in free agency.
It could be a situation where Denver opts to address larger needs like running back, linebacker, and tight end first. Even though he is 36, I could see a team in desperate need of defensive line help giving Jordan a much larger contract than one would expect.
Spotrac estimates Jordan’s free agent deal to be around $7 million. The Broncos can certainly afford that. However, Jordan will likely have many suitors and may opt to go somewhere he would be assured of a starting role. Though chasing a Super Bowl could certainly be a desire of his that narrows his interest in where to go.
Final Thoughts
I’m not sure how much interest Denver has in Jordan, but I think he would be a good fit here. If they don’t feel comfortable with Jones and Uwazurike being able to take over for Franklin-Myers’ eventual departure, pivoting to the battle-tested veteran on a one-year stop-gap deal makes a lot of sense. I’m guessing they will opt with the former, but we will just have to wait and see.
What do you think, Broncos Country? Would you be in favor of Cameron Jordan being signed by the Broncos? Let me know in the comments section.
