Former ONE strawweight champion Jarred Brooks is returning to flyweight for his next fight against an opponent who was chasing his title not that long ago.
The UFC and RIZIN veteran who has spent the past four years in ONE is set to face Mansur Malachiev as part of the upcoming ONE Fight Night 36 card, which takes place on Oct. 3 from Bangkok, Thailand.
ONE officials confirmed the matchup to MMA Fighting on Wednesday.
The fight serves as Brooks’ chance to stop the bleeding after dropping back-to-back
fights for the first time since 2018 when he felt to Deiveson Figueiredo and Jose “Shorty” Torres in the UFC. In his most recent outing, Brooks fell short in his trilogy with Joshua Pacio after suffering a second-round TKO loss.
Now Brooks attempts to get back on track in October with hopes that he won’t drop three fights in a row.
As for Malachiev, the Russian boasts an impressive 13-1 record in his career including a 3-1 resume in ONE Championship. Malachiev also came up short in his own fight against Pacio back in 2023 but he’s since picked up two wins in a row as he prepares for his matchup with Brooks in October.
Brooks vs. Malachiev is the latest addition to the ONE Fight Night 36 event, which is headlined by a strawweight kickboxing title bout between Prajanchai PK Saenchai and Jonathan Di Bella in a rematch after Prajanchai narrowly scored a win in their first encounter.
