In news released by the DFB (as captured by @iMiaSanMia), six players from the first squad will also stay with the second squad for games three and four of this international break:
- Yannik Engelhardt
- Finn Dahmen
- Serge Gnabry
- Nico Schlotterbeck
- Philipp Treu
- Bambasé Conté
Originally, Bayern Munich’s Jamal Musiala and Gnabry, along with Borussia Dortmund’s Schlotterbeck were supposed to be the only swing players. After Musiala and Arsenal’s Kai Havertz were each injured during Germany’s 1-1 draw with the Netherlands, the plans have changed as Jürgen Klopp has given himself a little more
flexibility by bringing more players to the final week of camp and games.
Notably, Treu was extremely strong with the Netherlands and might have positioned himself as the leader in the clubhouse to be the starting right-back (a bit of a White Whale for recent Germany national team managers). Otherwise, it can be assumed that Klopp either wanted a longer look at these players or just wanted some depth available.
