Another Trade Deadline acquisition took the mound for the San Diego Padres against the Houston Astros. The result was another disappointing outing and another loss for the Padres.
Robbie Ray who won his last start at Petco Park as a member of the San Francisco Giants made his debut with San Diego and allowed four runs on seven hits with five walks and two strikeouts over five innings pitched in what proved to be a 6-3 loss for the Padres. It was another disappointing result for a Trade Deadline acquisition
after Casey Mize was roughed up in his first outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks where he allowed eight runs in nine hits in three-plus innings of work last week.
The San Diego offense tried to climb back into the game and cut the deficit to 4-3 scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth and a run in the bottom of the fifth. The third run of the game for the Padres came on a monster solo home run off the bat of Fernando Tatis Jr. The hope was that blast would ignite the offense and San Diego would come back to win the game, but Yuki Matsui and Wandy Peralta each allowed a run in their combined four innings pitched and the Padres were unable to add to their run total.
San Diego plays the second game of the series tonight at Petco Park at 4:15 p.m.
