Bayern Munich CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen is an adept businessman and knows that his club must find a way to make up for the massive gap that exists between the Bundesliga and Premier League for television revenue.
“To maintain our international competitiveness,” Dreesen told Welt am Sonntag (as captured by @iMiaSanMia) when asked about Bayern Munich’s biggest challenges moving forward. “We have to work harder and watch our costs. The Premier League’s TV revenue is enormous. We simply have to do things
differently. In terms of marketing and sponsorship revenue, we are among the top three in European football. Nevertheless, we must continue to increase these revenues. If we fail to do so, it will be difficult for us. We want to generate further growth here, especially internationally. That’s why we’re taking the FC Bayern brand around the world, organizing international friendlies and tours.”
It is true, Bayern Munich will have to work harder. The Premier League is the proven, established brand that world broadcasters will battle over. The Bundesliga…not so much — and that is what Dreesen wants to start to change, while also developing other revenue streams.
Doing so, could solidify the future of the club.
