Just because we didn’t have a a Manchester United match to watch this weekend didn’t mean that the players weren’t busy.
Four players under contract with United suited up in the 1-1 draw against Uruguay at Wembley. Harry Maguire and Marcus Rashford, who is on loan at Barcelona, started for Thomas Tuchel’s England while Manuel Ugarte started for the visitors. Kobbie Mainoo replaced former Manchester United midfielder James Garner in the 69th minute while Rashford was eventually subbed off for Harvey
Barnes. Ugarte’s substitution in the 89th minute meant that Maguire was the only United player to play the full match.
Senne Lammens made his second-ever start for Belgium in a 5-2 victory over the United States, recording three saves.
Amad Diallo was a second-half substitute in Ivory Coast’s 4-0 win over South Korea. Despite the brief cameo, he recorded an assist in second-half stoppage.
Casemiro and Matheus Cunha started for Brazil as Seleção fell to France 2-1. In Portugal’s 0-0 draw against Mexico, Bruno Fernandes started while Diogo Dalot came off the bench. Noussair Mazraoui started and played 81 minutes in Morocco’s 1-1 draw against Ecuador.
Ayden Heaven trained with the England men’s national senior team before joining the England U-20s where he scored his first international goal against the Italian U-20s — a header from a corner kick.
The club confirmed ahead of the break that Bryan Mbeumo and Benjamin Sesko withdrew from the Cameroon and Slovenia squads, respectively, as they nurse minor injuries. Mbeumo’s injury stemmed from his 71st minute substitution in the club’s 2-2 draw at Bournemouth while Sesko has been managing an injury for the last several weeks.
