Happy Sunday Husky fans. Today I wanted to talk a little bit about some of the 2027 commits and give my thoughts on who I think could be in for a ratings jump as the 2026 high school season kicks into gear.
3 star offensive lineman Reis Russell from Valor Christian HS, CO isn’t underrated to most college staffs around the country, but recruiting services have him massively underrated (some of that is the position he plays). Listed at 6’3” and around 290 pounds Russell has the frame to potentially
come in and challenge for playing time next year. His film is very impressive, via pancake blocks on almost every play, and it’s really hard to see Russell being only the 62nd best interior offensive lineman (via 247sports, and 54th best via on3) in the country. Eventually I could see Russell being bumped up to a low 4 star recruit as more of his film comes out and he’s a player that is massively underrated for me.
Another player who I think is due for a big jump in the rankings is 3 star safety Jaden Walk-Green from Centennial HS, CA. Last year in one of the most competitive divisions in all of California Walk-Green accounted for 10 interceptions and 5 touchdown returns. On3 already has Walk-Green rated as the 14th best safety in the country, but 247sports only has him rated as the 54th best safety in the country (which seems very low for the production he had last year. Another factor that be hampering his rankings are his size, he’s listed at 5’11” and around 185 pounds, however as we have seen from players like Budda Baker size isn’t everything at the safety position and instincts and speed sideline to sideline are important (some players have a knack for making plays and I would put Walk-Green in that bucket).
Speaking of safeties I also think his future teammate in the back end of the defense is also vastly underrated. 3 star safety Isala Aisa Wily-Ava from St John Bosco HS, CA was a Max preps All American as a sophomore. Last year he was banged up but still had 40 tackles and 2 TFL’s on a loaded Bosco team. Listed at 6’2” and around 195 pounds Wily-Ava has a bigger frame that should help him be a physical presence for the Huskies (similar to the way they deploy Alex McLaughlin). Wily-Ava is currently rated as the 49th best safety via 247sports and 59th via On3 sports. With Bosco likely to be one of the best teams in California this season and Wily Ava being one of their stalwarts, he should see a jump in his ranking this season.
I’m curious to hear who everyone thinks is underrated and why (let me know what you think in the comments). There are plenty of other guys who are probably going to see a large climb in the rankings but these three are players I would fight for them to be ranked higher if I was involved in the rankings process. That is all for today and as always follow me @asieverkropp.
