The Seattle Seahawks announced a flurry of roster moves ahead of their Week 13 match-up against the Minnesota Vikings. Some of these moves were already known as their news broke earlier in the week (such as the waiving of cornerback Derion Kendrick, and the additions of safety Quandre Diggs to the practice squad, and running back Cam Akers to the 53-man roster.)
However, the moves that were not known include the promotions of cornerback Shaquill Griffin and linebacker Patrick O’Connell to the 53-man
roster. To make room for those two (plus Akers), linebacker Chazz Surratt was placed on injured reserve. Seattle already had two open roster spots from earlier moves made.
As for the practice squad maneuvers, in addition to Diggs joining, running back Myles Gaskin returns to Seattle on the practice squad. Wide receiver Jimmy Holiday (an undrafted rookie out of Louisiana Tech, who was just released by the Kansas City Chiefs) also comes to Seattle on the practice squad. Offensive tackle Logan Brown was released to make room.
Surratt being placed on injured reserve is not surprising considering Mike Macdonald’s comments earlier in the week after Surratt suffered an ankle injury against the Tennessee Titans. However, what is telling is that (for now) safety Ty Okada and running back George Holani were not placed on injured reserve. Both similarly suffered bad looking injuries in the Titans game. Though there were additions at both of those positions, this either indicates their injuries are not as bad as initially anticipated, or further additions will be made to the roster if Okada or Holani were to be added to injured reserve later.
One last piece of news that is arguably the most intriguing, is that rookie defensive lineman Rylie Mills was designated to return to practice. The fifth-round pick out of Notre Dame tore his ACL towards the end of his 2024 season, causing him to slip down the draft boards and eventually be placed on the NFI list with the Seahawks. Mills will be able to practice with the team for 21 days without counting towards the 53-man roster.
