Now that Texas Tech quarterback Brendan Sorsby has declared for the NFL’s Supplemental Draft, some Rams fans may be wondering if it would have been smarter to wait for him, rather than use the 13th overall pick on Ty Simpson. But based on what picks the Rams have next year, that never would have really worked.
The Rams have Simpson and Myles Garrett, instead of Brendan Sorsby and Makai Lemon. Which sounds better to you?
The Rams are lacking 2027 picks
The Supplemental Draft works like this: Teams bid their 2027 picks to acquire a player
in the 2026 supplemental. As pointed out by Nick Korte of OvertheCap, the Rams do not have picks in the first or third-round to bid. The best that Les Snead could do now is bid a second-round pick, which would leave L.A. empty handed until day three.
The Rams traded their 2027 first-round pick to the Browns in the Garrett trade, and they gave up the 2027 third-round pick to the Chiefs in the Trent McDuffie trade.
They couldn’t now use a second-round pick on a player in the supplemental.
Even if Sorsby ends up being a fourth-round pick in the Supplemental Draft, the Rams would be one of the last teams to win that bid because they went to the NFC Championship game last season.
So if you happen to be thinking, “Ah man, the Rams could have had Sorsby and drafted someone else who can help this year”, no they couldn’t have. Not if they wanted Myles Garrett.
