The Washington Mystics defeated the Connecticut Sun, 92-84 on Tuesday night. This is their third straight win which gives them a 15-12 record. Despite the win streak, the Mystics are still eighth in the WNBA standings. That’s because the sixth place Atlanta Dream and seventh place New York Liberty have also won three straight games.
As you might have expected, the Mystics were expected to win this game against Connecticut, who are 7-21 and in their lame duck season before becoming the WNBA’s reincarnation
of the Houston Comets. The Sun took a 33-26 lead in the first quarter, but Washington was able to go on a dominant second and third quarter which gave them as high as an 18 point lead. The Sun were able to make the margin more respectable by the end.
Sonia Citron led the Mystics with 22 points on 6-of-9 shooting and also dished 4 assists. Kiki Iriafen added 20 points and 10 rebounds. For Connecticut, Aneesah Morrow led with 21 points.
Washington’s next game is on Saturday when they host the Dallas Wings for two consecutive games. Tip off for Saturday’s game is at 1:30 p.m. ET. See you then.
