What is the story about?

New York Giants fans apparently like the team’s Monday trade for quarterback J.J. McCarthy. Love? That probably isn’t quite the case.

There were 1,1147 votes in our poll asking readers to grade the trade. The most common grade was a ‘B’, with 36% of voters giving GM Joe Schoen and head coach John Harbaugh that score for acquiring the 23-year-old McCarthy from the Minnesota Vikings in exchange for a fifth-round pick.

The next-most often chosen grade was a ‘C’, with 24% of voters selecting that option.

Only 19% of voters gave the McCarthy acquisition an ‘A’. Eleven percent gave the move a ‘D’, and 9% hated the move enough to grade it an ‘F’.

One analyst who loves the deal for the Giants is former NFL quarterback Chase Daniel:

McCarthy reported to the Giants on Tuesday and attended meetings. The Giants don’t begin practicing for their Week 4 game against the Arizona Cardinals until Wednesday.
