The Pittsburgh Pirates are spending another year in last place in the National League Central standings.
The Pirates finished with a 71-91 record in the 2025 season, which led Bleacher Report writer Kerry
Miller to give the team a “C-” grade in his yearly report card for all 30 teams.
“In Pittsburgh’s case, an atypical offseason is very much a good thing, signing both Ryan O’Hearn and Gregory Soto while trading for Brandon Lowe, Jake Mangum and Jhostynxon García. Whether it’ll be enough to turn around what was the most hapless offense in the majors in 2025 is open to debate. But after all the external nonsense about possible Paul Skenes trade packages, at least they’re trying to amount to something while he’s on the team,” Miller wrote.
Half of the league received a “C-” grade or worse, so the Pirates are actually in the middle of the pack, likely because teams that finished better than them may have underperformed from their expectations. Ultimately, the Pirates had stronger expectations than how they finished in 2025, but it was a little closer on the nose than other teams.
The Pirates are trying to do their best to get a better grade in 2026 by making some moves to add some talent both in the pitching staff and in the field. The hope is that the Pirates will continue to build on this momentum as they turn the calendar from 2025 to 2026.
