Three Ole Miss Rebels homered in Knoxville to power a Rebel victory in game one of the series extending a seven game win streak.
The No. 25 Rebels (28-11, 9-7 SEC) opened its scoring with a solo home run from Hayden Federico who has been a resurging offensive force during this latest win streak. In the top of the third, Tristan Bissetta and Judd Utermark went back to back out of Lindsey Nelson Stadium to give the Rebels a 3-1 lead it would not relinquish.
Starting pitcher Hunter Elliott earned his
fourth win of the season going six innings into the game and only allowing three runs with five strikeouts. From there, Hudson Calhoun pitched two innings allowing one run, and Walker Hooks earned his third save of the season with a shutout ninth.
Federico had a huge night going 3/4 from the plate with three RBIs including his first home run of the season. He has hit his stride in SEC play after some early struggles and has a .408 batting average in SEC play with a .301 average for the season.
The second game of the Ole Miss-Tennessee series has been moved up to 3 p.m. CT to accommodate for potential severe weather. Cade Townsend will be the starting pitcher for the Rebels looking to get his fourth win for the season. The game will be streamed live on SEC Network+.
