The Colorado Rockies, fresh off a series win in St. Louis, are back at home at Coors Field. Timely offense and solid enough pitching performances helped them salvage their road trip, but they will look to face off against the Arizona Diamondbacks once again, this time at home.
The Diamondbacks swept the Rockies in Arizona last weekend thanks to their unrelenting offense. Arizona is likely chomping at the bit to face the Rockies once again in this four-game set. The opening bout will feature a rematch
from last Saturday as the Rockies look to ride the offensive momentum from St. Louis.
Bradley Blalock (1-3, 7.89 ERA) takes the ball for Colorado, looking to rebound from his last outing which came against the Snakes. He lasted 4 2/3 innings, giving up five runs on seven hits. His main struggle was the three walks allowed, but he did manage four strikeouts; the hits just cost him dearly. His last outing at home wasn’t much better, where he gave up seven runs on six hits with four walks in 5 2/3 innings against Pittsburgh. Blalock will have to be careful around the zone, needing to throw quality strikes and keep the walks to a minimum.
He’ll be opposed once again by veteran lefty Eduardo Rodriguez (4-7, 5.68 ERA). The Rockies managed to get after Rodriguez in his start last time out as well. He allowed five runs on six hits in 5 1/3 innings of work, issuing five walks against two strikeouts. The Rockies had plenty of opportunities and stayed in the game until the very end, but they will need to make sure they keep up the pressure on Rodriguez at the relievers that follow him.
