Aaron Rodgers has gone out of his way this offseason to put over the history of the Pittsburgh Steelers, as well as the legends that have come through Pittsburgh. His interview with Kyle Brandt of NFL Network made waves when he responded to Terry Bradshaw telling him to “chew on bark” rather than sign with the Steelers. Instead of a cruel response, Rodgers said he’d love to get to know Bradshaw better and build a relationship. However, not everyone gets the same grace as Bradshaw.
Joining Dave Dameshek
on Football America!, Clark said that Rodgers declined to go on his show The Pivot.
“He declined,” Clark said. “He had other things to do, which I respected. But when we were pulling up to campus, he was talking to Arthur Smith when we were going up the hill. For me, if I truly don’t have an issue with you, I’m going to speak to you. I’m going to say hello. It’s rude not to, in my opinion. So he was talking to Arthur Smith. I talked to some of the guys I [saw] coming from the special teams meeting. I roll the window down and I say, ‘What’s up guys?’ Arthur Smith kind of speaks. Aaron Rodgers looks at me and he doesn’t say anything.”
Clark added that he understood why Rodgers didn’t say anything to him, and he respected that he wasn’t “being fake.”
“I respected it because he was like, ‘I’m not gonna be fake.’ For whatever he feels or whatever it is, he’s like, ‘That is not someone that I fool with in that way, and I’m not going to fake it.‘ And I think it set the tone that you and I don’t talk. When I was on the field, I didn’t say anything to him. He didn’t say anything to me.”
Rodgers has a rocky relationship with many in the media, predominantly ESPN media who have bashed him over the last several seasons. And while Clark has done his fair share of that, he did put over Rodgers when talking to Dameshek, saying he is the most talented quarterback he’s played against and that the four-time MVP threw some of the best balls he has seen him throw during training camp.
