Joao Cancelo says that Barcelona are the perfect club for him amid continued speculation about his future.
The Portugal international arrived on loan in the January transfer window and has gone on to become a regular in the team.
Cancelo admits he had a bit of a slow start to his second spell at Barcelona but is now flying with Hansi Flick’s side.
“As I said at the beginning, I didn’t arrive in my best physical condition. Physically I wasn’t well and it was a little difficult to get back to the level
I know I have and that I expected,” he told ESPN.
“From the moment I managed to get back to that physical level, I think things started to flow normally, I managed to be a starter in many of the games in the second half of the season.
“I think the club also facilitates my performance. This club is perfect for me, for my style of play, and I think that has greatly facilitated my starting position so far. But, as I said, I want to win this La Liga title, it’s a title I desire.”
“It’s the club I’ve most wanted to play for so far. I managed to do it for the second time. Unfortunately, the first time I was here I didn’t manage to win any titles. I hope this season I can win this much-desired La Liga title.”
Cancelo also spoke about his switch of flanks and says he’s happy to play at left-back.
“I’ve gotten used to it. I think nowadays it’s the same playing on the right or left wing, I don’t know where I like playing more anymore,” he added.
“It’s something I got used to, since my time in Benfica’s youth academy, the coaches would adapt me to left wing, and it was a position I liked to play because I have a more offensive profile, I feel like a technically gifted player, and so I think that’s why I have this ease of playing on the left wing.”
Barcelona are reportedly eager to make his stay permanent but must find a way to agree a deal with parent club Al-Hilal this summer.
