The Washington Commanders had a joint practice in Baltimore with the Ravens on Wednesday, and will close out the preseason against them Friday night. The two teams had a long practice session together, and that will be the last time we see most of the starters before rosters have to be cut down to 53 players on Sunday at 6 p.m. ET.
Quarterback Jayden Daniels only played one series again this preseason, a three-play series that only saw one throwaway pass after the line broke down. The offensive line has
been stressing fans out due to injuries at left tackle and center, along with the fact that the depth at center is so lacking, fans are counting down the days until Nick Allegretti returns to start.
The Commanders won’t have backup quarterback Marcus Mariota to carry the majority of snaps due to an MCL sprain from the Dolphins game. The battle for QB3 pretty much ended in most people’s eyes last week, when seventh-round rookie Athan Kaliakmanis put on a show against the Lions, attacking them deep and making some big plays. Sam Hartman will get a lot of playing time as well in Baltimore. Last week the two quarterbacks alternated series, and that could be the plan again with only two signal callers available.
Head coach Dan Quinn said special teams will be important for the few spots that aren’t already locked in on the Commanders’ initial 53-man roster. Will Washington keep a seventh receiver like UDFA Jaden Bradley, who has shown flashes on offense but also could be a key special teams player? How many defensive backs and linebackers will be influenced by a few bubble players’ value at multiple spots.
