The NFC West arms race is back in full effect, as the Seattle Seahawks acquired eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson in a trade with the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday. The 4-3 Seahawks are making a push to get back in the hunt for the NFC West title and catch up to the 6-1 San Francisco 49ers, while the Los Angeles Rams sit at 3-4 and hoping to start a winning streak after beating the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday.
After a summer that saw the Rams trade for Myles Garrett and Trent McDuffie, and the 49ers
sign Mike Evans, the Seahawks have made their move several weeks before the 2026 trade deadline. Seattle is sending a third and a fifth-round pick to the Colts for Nelson.
Is this a move the Rams should have considered making?
Kevin Dotson has not had the type of season that fans are accustomed to seeing from him. However, Nelson has primarily played left guard in his career and Dotson is a right guard. Would Dotson push Steve Avila inside or to the right side? It’s essentially the same thing that has to happen in Seattle, as 2025 first-round pick Grey Zabel is the Seahawks’ left guard.
The Seahawks and Rams don’t face each other until Week 16. Seattle has had major issues protecting Sam Darnold and running the football consistently, so they’ve made a move now. Will the L.A. Rams also make a move at the trade deadline? Brian Thomas Jr and other receivers are on possibility, but any move you can make to improve the team at any position is a move worth considering.
