The Wisconsin Badgers are back in action on Wednesday night, fresh off a two-win week last week, as they take on the red-hot No. 23 Nebraska Cornhuskers on the road.
Wisconsin had a nice 85-73 win over the Northwestern Wildcats to kick off Big Ten play last Wednesday, getting off to a hot start at home in a game that wasn’t as close as the final score indicated. Then, they got a big blowout win over the Marquette Golden Eagles at the Kohl Center on Saturday, scoring 96 points as they won by 20.
John
Blackwell was named the Big Ten Player of the Week after a 26-point performance against Northwestern and a 30-point performance against Marquette. He comes into Wednesday averaging 21 points per game, with Nick Boyd right behind him at 20.2 points a contest.
With the two wins, the Badgers improved to 7-2 and 6-0 at home, yet remained out of the AP Top 25. They had the eighth-most votes out of the Top 25 in the latest polls.
They do have a big chance to jump back in with a game against Nebraska on Wednesday. The Cornhuskers have started the year 9-0 under head coach Fred Hoiberg, being ranked for the first time since 2018.
So far, they’ve beaten Oklahoma, Kansas State, and Creighton in big matchups. Wednesday’s game is their first Big Ten contest of the season.
Getting these early wins in conference play is huge when you consider how close the Big Ten standings have been in the 18-team field. Wisconsin is starting freshman Aleksas Bieliauskas alongside Nolan Winter in the frontcourt once again, with the rest of their starting five remaining intact.
