According to a report from Defensa Central, there could be one less club participating in the sweepstakes for Bayern Munich center-back Dayot Upamecano.
Real Madrid will reportedly turn its full focus to Liverpool FC center-back Ibrahima Konaté rather than pursue Upamecano:
Despite Madrid’s name being associated with Upamecano, especially in Germany, the truth is that Real Madrid consider their option to sign him to be very remote and unviable . Firstly, because at Chamartín they believe the player
wants to renew with Bayern, but is interested in having big names associated with him so he can get more money, something that already happened with Davies. And secondly, because Real Madrid believes Konaté is the player who best suits what they are looking for and, therefore, is the favorite and the chosen one . In any case, nothing is finalized with him yet.
This doesn’t mean that Real Madrid doesn’t consider Upamecano a great player, but they don’t see him as having the same potential as Konaté.
That might seem like good news for Bayern Munich, but Konaté could easily sign a contract extension with Liverpool — which would open the market back up for Real Madrid to take a run at Upamecano. Many fans are hoping to see Bayern Munich extend Upoamecano’s contract, but a figure for a signing bonus is reportedly one of the obstacles in the way of getting a deal done.
