The 2025 World Series kicks off tonight, pairing the reigning champions, the Los Angeles Dodgers, against the surprise AL-winners, the Toronto Blue Jays (the only team that makes the “World” Series remotely international). It should be an exciting showdown of generational talent, and a chance to see Clayton Kershaw’s final major league appearances (his inclusion in the WS roster was just confirmed last night). Also making a surprise return will be Bo Bichette, who was added to the Jays’ roster this
morning ahead of Game One.
It’s been 13 years since the Tigers made a World Series appearance, but there have been some tremendous WS moments before and after the 2012 sweep. So, to celebrate the current World Series, we thought it would be fun to have a Friday open thread celebrating some of the best World Series memories we have overall. Not just from the Tigers (though, if you have memories from their previous outings, we’d love to hear them!) but just the World Series in general.
Personally, I attended Game Four of the 2012 World Series and will never forget that frigid October evening in Detroit. But a more recent memory, and one the Dodgers likely blocked out, was this great moment from the surreal 2020 World Series. (Brett Phillips recently announced his retirement, so this clip feels extra fitting this year.)
Also, as a Canadian, I think it’s safe to say this particular Jays’ World Series moment is actually a national historic document at this point.
Head to the comments and share your favorite World Series memories!
