Editor’s note: With several sports going on, Wildcat Wrap serves as a recap that focuses on the Arizona programs that we do not have the time to cover on a regular basis but are certainly worthy of recognition.
Members of the Arizona men’s tennis team are competing this week at the ITA All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla.
Senior Alexander Rozin is in the main draw of the singles tournament, where he’ll face off against Kentucky’s Jack Loutit on Wednesday. Rozin entered the fall as the No. 37
ranked singles player in the country.
Rozin and teammate Glib Sekachov also made it into the doubles qualifying draw. The pair defeated a duo from Tulsa on Monday.
Junior Zoran Ludoski was selected to the singles qualifying draw. He lost his opening match on Monday.
The ITA All-Americans continues through Sunday. Arizona will next send players to the University of Arkansas M15 Open from Sept. 28 – Oct. 5.
Women’s golf
Arizona women’s golf is near the top of the leaderboard at the Golfweek Red Sky Classic in Wolcott, Colo.
Through two rounds, Arizona sits in a tie for fourth place at 13 strokes under par. The Wildcats are tied with Miami and Pepperdine and sit one stroke behind Texas A&M and LSU. USC is alone in first place at 33-under.
Nagore Martinez, a freshman from Spain, leads the team at 6-under, putting her in a tie for eighth place. Senior Charlotte Back is right behind her at 5-under. Freshman Olivia Hung (Taiwain) is also in the mix at 4-under.
That Arizona is holding its own against some of the nation’s top programs is a positive development early in the season for Giovana Maymon’s club. The event concludes Wednesday.
Cross country
The Wildcats cross country teams travel to Chicago to compete at the Sean Earl Lakefront Invitational on Friday. The event features a women’s 6K and a men’s 8K.
Both the men and women won their season opener at the Dave Murray Invitational.
Friday’s meet will be a step up in competition, as Arizona squares off against 16 other programs, including six from the Big Ten. The event should serve as a good midseason measuring stick for Andrew Dubs’ team.
