The University of Missouri and soccer head coach Stefanie Golan mutually parted ways on Monday, one day after the Tigers missed the SEC Tournament for the sixth straight year under her watch.
Athletics Director Laird Veatch announced the departure, which is effective immediately, and said a national search will begin to find her successor. No interim coach has been named at this time.
The move comes a day after Missouri’s season ended with a 0-0 draw against LSU. The Tigers finished outside the 12-team
conference tournament field, which begins Nov. 8 in Pensacola, Florida. Golan leaves with a 31-56-15 record in six seasons.
The Tigers haven’t made the postseason since 2020. Golan’s best season came in her first year, going 7-10 in 2021. Since then, the team has not won more than five games in any season. Last season, the Tigers went 4-10-3, finished 1-7-2 in SEC play, and placed 15th in the conference.
The decision comes despite a recent show of faith. Golan signed a three-year deal that would have kept her at Missouri through the 2028 season. The school’s release did not address the financial terms of the split.
Golan, a St. Charles, Missouri native, was hired in May 2021 as the second coach in program history, succeeding Bryan Blitz after his 25 seasons at the helm. She came from Minnesota, where she went 92-64-24 in nine seasons with four NCAA Tournament appearances. She was named Big Ten Coach of the Year in 2016.
