The Buffalo Bills are onto their third place kicker of the 2025 NFL season.
Tyler Bass has missed the entire season with nagging hip/groin injuries sustained during the preseason. His replacement, veteran Matt Prater, has fared well, converting 18 of 20 field goal attempts and making 43 of 46 extra point attempts, but Prater is now considered week-to-week with a quadriceps injury.
On Tuesday, the Bills signed veteran Michael Badgley to their practice squad, and it appears the placekicking duties will
belong to the “Money Badger” when the Bills travel to play the Cleveland Browns in Week 16.
Today’s edition of Buffalo Rumblinks leads off by getting to know Badgley, who most recently kicked for the Indianapolis Colts for seven weeks earlier this season.
What do the Bills have in new kicker Michael Badgley?
Michael Badgley came into the NFL as an undrafted rookie free agent out of the University of Miami in 2018, and after spending the summer with the Colts, he latched on with the Los Angeles Chargers from 2018-2020. Following a successful rookie season that saw him make countless clutch kicks while going 15-of-16 on field goals and 27-of-28 on extra points, Charger fans gave Badgley his nickname, “Money Badger,” and the kicker trademarked the nickname in 2019.
In three seasons with the Chargers, Badgley made 52 of 65 field goal attempts (80%) and was 82 for 86 on extra points (95.3%).
Badgley has kicked around the league since then, playing with the Tennessee Titans (2021), Indianapolis Colts (2021, 2025), Chicago Bears (2022), and Detroit Lions (2022-2024). During his latest stretch with Indianapolis, Badgely converted 10 of his 11 field goal attempts (91%) and 18 of 21 extra point attempts (85.7%). He was waived by the Colts on Dec. 2.
For his career, Badgley has made 83% of his field goals (103 of 130) with a career long of 59 yards (during his rookie season). He has also converted on 94.8% of his extra point tries (186 of 196).
