The Pittsburgh Pirates are wasting no time in the offseason, already making moves to firm up their Minor League rosters, when it was announced over the weekend that they signed outfielder and Gibsonia native Kyler Fedko to a two-year Minor League contract.
Fedko is coming
off of a torn ACL and MCL, but he expects to be back in action getting healthy somewhere around February. That means he will likely still be rehabbing when the season starts, but he is expected back on the field sometime this year.
The 27-year-old was drafted in the 12th round by the Minnesota Twins in 2021. They DFA’d him back in September, allowing the Bucs to snatch him up on a short deal, which has now been upgraded to this two-year contract. Fedko originally played at Vicentian Academy in McCandless and for the University of Connecticut before starting his pro career.
He also has a fair bit of power. He hit .274 with 17 homers and 54 RBIs this past season for St. Paul, while he also hit 28 combined homers and 82 combined RBIs in double and triple-A in 2025. He had one brief call up to the Majors last season, where he went hitless in 16 at-bats. Nevertheless, the Bucs certainly like a hometown kid story, and they can always use a little extra bat pop, so this move makes sense in that regard.
